Carl Wieman is a physicist at The University of British Columbia, where he is heading a major science education initiative. Wieman also maintains a close affiliation with his Science in Education Project at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he was distinguished professor until early 2007.
Winner of the 2001 Nobel Prize in Physics, along with colleagues Eric Cornell and Wolfgang Ketterle, Wieman was named United States professor of the year in 2004. He currently also serves as chair of the board on Science Education of the National Academy of Sciences. The Nobel laureate earned his bachelor of science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his PhD from Stanford University.
