H. Arnold Steinberg

H. Arnold Steinberg—Vice-Chair, CIHR Governing Council

H. Arnold Steinberg is a Montreal businessman and philanthropist with a lengthy record of service with numerous charitable, educational and cultural organizations. Currently, he serves as vice-chair of the Canadian Institutes for Health Research’s governing council. Steinberg obtained his bachelor of commerce from McGill University and an MBA from Harvard University. He has held many senior management positions and directorships with several Canadian companies, including Steinberg Inc., Ivanhoe Inc., Teleglobe Inc., Provigo Inc. and the Banque Nationale du Canada.

Steinberg was the founding chairman of Canadians for Health Research and was the  board chairman of the McGill University-Montreal Children's Hospital Research Institute for 19 years. He was also the founding chairman of the McGill University Health Centre and is a member of the executive committee of the Canada Council for the Arts. He was awarded the Order of Canada in 1993.
