Mona Nemer is a professor and vice-president, research, at the University of Ottawa. She was previously a professor of pharmacology at the Université de Montréal and director of the cardiac development research unit at the Institut de recherches cliniques de Montréal, and has served on various peer committees and executive boards. Nemer’s research focuses on the molecular mechanisms involved in cell growth and differentiation, particularly relating to heart failure and congenital heart diseases. She is renowned for, amongst other things, her pioneering work on the regulation of natriuretic heart hormones and the identification of several genes essential for heart development.
Nemer has a PhD in bio-organic chemistry from McGill University. Her interdisciplinary research has brought her numerous accolades, including the Leo Pariseau Prize in Biological Sciences and Health Sciences, and the Jeanne Manery Fisher Award. She is a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and past holder of the Canada Research Chair in Cardiovascular Cell Differentiation.
