Gilles Brassard

Gilles Brassard

Gilles Brassard is the Canada Research Chair in Quantum Information Processing. A fellow of the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR), the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research and the Royal Society of Canada, and a foreign member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, he has been a professor at the Université de Montréal since 1979. Inventor of quantum cryptography and quantum teleportation, among other things, he is interested in all aspects of quantum information processing.

Author of three books translated into eight languages, his numerous awards and honours include: an E.W.R. Steacie Memorial Fellowship, the Prix Urgel-Archambault, the Steacie Prize, a Killam Research Fellowship, the prix Marie-Victorin, the Rank Prize in optoelectronics and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council’s (NSERC) Award of Excellence. For the last three years, he was one of the three finalists for NSERC's Gerhard Herzberg Canada Gold Medal for Science and Engineering. He was named Scientist of the Year (La Presse, 1995), Personality of the Year in information technology (Fédération de l'informatique du Québec, 2008) and IACR Distinguished Lecturer (2008).
